Bowmoor Sailing Club annual Youth & Oppie Camp will be held this year from Tuesday evening 28th May to Friday 31st May 2019.

Camp will cater for children with a wide range of sailing ability from those who have recently completed initial RYA level 2 training to those competing in club racing and at open events around the country.  We have arranged experienced and inspiring coaches for all the groups and plan to run a structured sailing week, the emphasis being on, improving skills, having fun, enjoying the sport of sailing and spending time with sailing friends both new and old.

As last year, we will run multiple coaching groups, these will include, Optimists, Optibats, Bytes, Teras, Toppers, Neos, Picos and Fevas along with a  Pirate group for younger non sailing siblings. .  For those with out their own boat there are Bowmoor Club boats available for hire,  please indicate on your booking form if you wish to hire a boat, these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. This includes people who are hiring on an annual basis.

During camp each child must have sole use of a boat as it is impracticable to share.

The Pirate group is for younger siblings (aged 6 or older) of sailors booked onto camp. This group is aimed at those children who are not quite old enough / ready,  to sail a boat independently but who are ready to build skills and confidence towards sailing through participating in a range of water and shore based activities. To book a place for Pirates, please complete the separate Pirate on-line entry form.

On Thursday night we are planning a Camp BBQ.  All other meals will need to be self-catered.  The Bowmoor galley will be open for lunch and we have new caterers as Stan and Pat have now retired.

This year we are fortunate to have Rhos Hawes a 49er Olympic potential visiting camp, sharing his sailing story from sailing as child at a local Cotswold sailing club to tales of his adventures in the 49er olympic sailing fleet.

The camp fee includes all coaching, prizes, contribution to fuel, administrative costs, refuse collection, BBQ on Thursday night for sailors  (parents can buy tickets at camp) and a hoody for each sailor.

Camping on site is also included in the overall cost and we invite people to arrive, register and set up on Tuesday evening ready for a 0900 coach’s brief on Wednesday morning.

A parent/guardian must remain on site at all times and will be required to carry out duties allocated by rota during the duration of camp this helps to keep costs down and contributes to the smooth running of the week.

For parents camp provides a great opportunity to relax, put your feet up and watch the sailing, we also recognise that it can be ‘tough' sitting still and that you can only drink so much tea in a week, so in addition this year we hope to offer parent paddle boarding,  and if the weather is kind we will organise adhoc parent racing - bring your sailing kit!

Booking for camp is now open, all bookings need to be made via  Bowmoor web-collect.  This system is slightly painful to use but please bear with the process, it really helps our admin.

Please please do not leave it to the last minute to book, last years camp sold out quickly, there is a real chance that this will happen again this year and that your children may miss out!   If you are able to pay by bank transfer then that will help to keep our costs down and is appreciated.

Immediately following camp we will run the Bowmoor Optimist Open meeting and Yoo Youth Regatta, held on the Saturday (1st June), this event will be suitable for all camp sailors and visitors, entry will be on the day.

We are having great fun planning camp and really looking forward to seeing you,

John Banbrook and Rachael Jenkins
