Cransley Sailing Club is a recognised RYA sailing club offering RYA sailing courses. 

You are required to be a member of the club to take part in our learn to sail courses.

Please note: your place is not confirmed until full payment is received for membership and the course.

Youths Learn to Sail 4 Day Course - Stage 1 & 2

We are running a youths learn to sail course on 14th, 15th, 21st & 22nd June 2025

You will be required to attend all dates to gain your qualification

Time 9am to 5pm

Suitable for children aged 8 upwards.

All four days of the course need to be completed.

To take part in the course you will need to be a member of the club CRANSLEYSC Subscriptions

Course Content : Youths

Stage 1: No assumed knowledge.

Course content: Launching & recovery, steering parts of the boat, basic sailing.

After completing stage 1 youths, will be able to understand the basic principles.

Youths Stage 2: Basic knowledge and steering ability to Stage 1.

Course content: Basic sailing skills, rope work, collision avoidance.

After completing the course: You will be able to tack and control boat speed, and understand basic principles. 

Please bring with you your packed lunch and snacks for the day.

Wear clothes appropriate to the weather conditions and bring spare old clothes with you as you will get wet.

Old trainers or sailing boots and a light weight wet weather jacket.

RYA Adults Learn to Sail Course Level 1 & 2  

We are running an adults learn to sail course on 14th, 15th, 21st & 22nd June 2025

You will be required to attend all dates to gain your qualification

This 4 day course starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm.

To take part in this course you will need to be a member of the club CRANSLEYSC Subscriptions

Please bring with you your packed lunch and snacks for the day and any medication you might need.

Wear clothes appropriate to the weather conditions and bring spare old clothes with you as you will get wet.

Old trainers or sailing boots and a light weight wet weatherproof jacket.

Course Content : Adults

Level 1 Start Sailing: No assumed knowledge.

Course content: How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering.

After completing Level 1: Able to sail in light winds under supervision.

Level 2 Basic Skills: Sailing skills to Level 1 standard.

Course content: Rigging, launching, sailing in all directions. Capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

After completing the course: Able to sail and make decisions in good conditions

Terms and Conditions - please read before booking your place on our learn to sail course

1. GENERAL

This course is organised by Cransley Sailing Club (CSC). CSC reserves the right to decline an application to take part in this course. CSC’s Principal may exclude a candidate from a particular session or request the candidate leave the course if the candidate misconducts themselves or causes damage or annoyance to others.

2. RISK STATEMENT

It must be recognised that water activities are by nature unpredictable and therefore inherently involve an element of risk. By taking part in this course you agree and acknowledge that:

(i) You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the activity and you accept responsibility exposing yourself to such inherent risk whilst taking part;

(ii) You will comply at all times with the instruction of the course Instructor particularly with regard to handling of boats, wearing of buoyancy aids, headgear and wearing of suitable clothing for the conditions;

(iii) You accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss caused by your own negligence;

(iv) The provision of safety boat cover is limited to such assistance as can be practically be provided in the circumstances;

(vi) You are aware of any specific risks drawn to your attention by the course Instructor.

3. CANCELLATIONS

Every attempt will be made to ensure the course runs. However, CSC reserves the right to cancel or re-arrange the course at any time where it believes there are reasonable grounds to do so.

CSC may re-schedule or re-arrange the event as an alternative to cancelling it. In such cases your booking shall be transferred to the re-arranged event, if this date and time is not convenient CSC will refund in full or in part (if the event has started) booking fees paid.

If CSC cancels, postpones or re-arranges the event CSC will not be liable for any cost or loss you may incur as a result.

If you have to cancel your booking please email the principal.cransleysailingclub@gmail.com giving the reason for the cancellation. Due to the irrecoverable costs incurred by CSC in staging the event/course/activity, CSC may deduct a reasonable sum from your booking fee to cover such costs.

If you cancel your booking within 14 days of the start of the event or whilst the event is taking place no refund will be paid as the service will be regarded as having commenced.

4. MEDICAL / ACCESS REQUIREMENTS / DIETARY REQUIREMENTS                                       

In the interests of your safety do you have any medical conditions or physical or mental impairments that we need to be aware of that may affect your ability to take part in the event/course/activity? Do you have any accessibility requirements that we can accommodate to make the day more accessible for you?  Due to restrictions at Cransley we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all your request/s but we will do our best do what we can to ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.                        

If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 or are required to self-isolate, you agree you will not attend the event/course/activityYou confirm that you have given the medical information, access requirements and/or dietary requirements as listed on the Web Collect application form for the purposes of participation in this course. You understand this information will only be used for that purpose and that it may be shared with third parties running the course and will be retained for as long as necessary to comply with the organisation’s legal obligations.

5. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION

A booking confirmation will be sent to you by email at the time of booking. If you do not receive the booking confirmation within 24 hours, please check your spam folder. If you still do not have the booking confirmation, please contact the at principal.cransleysailingclub@gmail.com

6. PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING

We may take photographs and video footage of the course for use by us in connection with the promotion of our club and our activities. If you do not want your image used in this way, please inform the course Instructor responsible for the day’s activities.

7. DATA PROTECTION

The information given by you on the booking application form will be used by us to process your registration and for attending to you whilst you are participating on the course. Information may be shared with the Instructor, or third parties associated with this course when it is necessary to do so, and you recognise that  as such these third parties may contact you in connection with the course when it is believed to be in your interest to do so. Information held by the CSC will be used and stored in accordance with the CSC Data Privacy Policy which is available on the club’s website.

8. AGREEMENT

By submitting an application for this course you confirm that you have read and accept these booking conditions.
