The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) is the UK’s national governing body for all forms of boating. It has the aim of providing the world’s best recreational and professional boat training schemes.

Earlswood Lakes Sailing Club is an accredited RYA training centre, inspected annually to ensure that we continue to deliver training that meets the RYA’s exacting standards. We concentrate on introducing newcomers to our much loved sport/hobby of sailing so our training programme is focused on teaching beginners the basic skills needed to sail and then helping and encouraging them to develop and use their skills as they gain experience.

We run two Start Sailing Courses each year for beginners, both adults and youth. This course is designed by the RYA to introduce you to sailing with all you need to know to get afloat under supervision. It runs over a weekend with 16 hours of tuition, most of which is on the water. These take place in spring or early summer to give plenty of time to practise skills during the warmer months. Those attending one of these courses are gifted club membership to the end of the year giving access to our club boats which are available to hire with rates of £6 - £15 depending on the dinghy type.

Depending on demand we also run a Level 2 Basic Skills course for adults in the autumn. The Level 2 course sets out the foundations of sailing for you so you can sail and make decisions in good conditions.

The club also runs power boat courses at RYA PB2 level.

Successful completion of the all courses is rewarded with a certificate and a logbook so you can track your progress as you develop your skill and enthusiasm.

We also offer a variety of development and coaching sessions throughout the year. These are tailored for specific groups, such as relative beginners, juniors, a particular boat class (such as a Laser), and ladies training to name a few.
