Learn To Kayak
from Galway Kayak Club
Always wanted to learn how to kayak? Want a chance to explore the beautiful waterways in and around Galway? Have some fun? Meet new friends?
If you answered Yes to any of these questions then our Kayak Beginner courses are the perfect activity for you!
Overview:
During the course, our experienced and qualified instructors will teach you how to kayak safely while having fun on the Upper Corrib. Our courses are run from Steamers Quay, Woodquay in the heart of Galway city. The course includes an assessment for the Canoeing Ireland Level 2 kayaking certificate. Missing several sessions may impact the chance to pass the assessment at the end of the course.
Please note that as this is a water-sport, you need to be able to swim 25m.
All kayak gear (boats, paddles, helmets, buoyancy aids) is provided during the course.
You will need to bring some personal gear like a long sleeve wetsuit (highly recommended as the participants will get wet some of the days), or old warm clothes like a synthetic athletic top, shorts or tracksuit bottoms for warmer days (no cotton!). You will also need old runners, or booties to wear on the water (this is essential to participate in the course). Also, make sure to bring a change of dry clothes for after the session.
Car and bike parking, and changing rooms with hot showers are available on-site.
Courses start at 6:30 pm. We aim to be out of the water around 8:30 pm each evening, but this can stretch to 9pm so please make sure to plan enough time.
Cancellation and refund:
Please note we require a week's notice prior to the course start date for cancellations.
After this we cannot guarantee a refund.
You can find the Level 2 Kayaking Skills course details here.
Looking forward to meeting you on the water !
