Four Star Leader Sea kayak Assessment, 10-11 December 2016   iCal entry for this event

ICC has rescheduled the  four star Leader assessment for sea kayak for the 10-11th December 2016. Successful completion will lead to award of the four star Leader qualification. This is an assessment, not a training course, but if you think you have the majority of the skills and meet the joining requirements I would encourage you to consider this as a learning opportunity.

There are a number of prerequisites for this assessment. You must have completed 4 star Leader training in the last three years. You need a VHF licence and your VHF should be registered. You also need to have completed a two day recognised first aid course in the last three years. Finally you must have completed Leader Registration and have received the endorsed form from the SCA. This needs to be done in good time. Details of Leader Registration are to be found on the SCA website.

The assessors for this course are Ian Bowler, ianbowler10@gmail.com (pl.note Ian's new email address) and Calum McKerral. Calum is Chief Instructor at Blairvadach Outdoor Education Centre.

For details of the syllabus see http://canoescotland.org/courses-training/bcu-star-awards.

This assessment is only to ICC members or, members of other SCA affiliated Clubs, and SCA individual member. New members are welcome to join the Club to facilitate assessment.

Participants must be over 16 (and cannot gain the full leadership award due to current legislation until you turn 18).

If you are in any doubt about your suitability, or perhaps more likely need a bit of encouragement, then speak to one of the club's coaches.

Boats can be borrowed from the Club in the usual way subject to availability. The hire fee is included in the cost of the assessment.

The assessment will be based on the Moray Firth, but may require some travel to find suitable locations/conditions. The second day will involve the leading of mock students.

Finally, if you need practice on specific aspects of the syllabus or want additional leadership experience please contact me or speak to any of the Club coaches or leaders.
