Members wishing to paddleboard on Kielder Water must hold a Paddle UK (formerly British Canoeing) Paddleboard Discover Award or equivalent (this includes the BSUPA Ready to Ride Award issued by KWSC prior to 2023).  Qualified members are permitted to use their own paddleboards or hire club paddleboards.

The Paddles UK Discover  Award can be booked via the event calender.  If no courses are currently available members can express their interest in a course by emailing info@kielderwatersailing.club.

The SUP Discover Award develops decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddleboarder.

During this award, your instructor will work with you to develop your decision making and practical paddleboarding skills, giving you confidence on the water.

Through this award you will learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddleboarding.

The award covers topics such as:

1. Encouraging independent decision making on the water, covering safety and weather aspects too
2. Preparing for self-guided adventures
3. Equipment you will need for a variety of paddle trips
4. SUP paddling and rescue skills

You don’t need any previous experience, just the desire for fun and learning!
