Adult Improvers - Saturday 3rd November 2018
This is is not a certificate course, but is aimed at those who have recently completed their RYA Level 1 & 2 and now wish to develop their skills and progress to club racing. Please pre-book the sessions you would like to attend - you can book as many as you like, you do not have to attend them all. These sessions are designed to lead to the Adult Start Racing certificate course. If you are overqualified then please do not book on - these sessions are usually over-subscribed and we need them to be left open for those coming off RYA 1/2 courses.
There is a nominal fee of £5 per session (payable on booking) to cover costs. You will need to bring lunch. Please contact Ness as soon as possible if you are no longer able to attend a session. This will ensure that the slot is offered to another sailor. Unfortunately the booking fee is non-refundable.
Skills developed include:
- Tacking
- Gybing
- Beating and getting upwind
- Mark rounding
- Boat set-up (kicker, downhaul, outhaul, daggerboard etc.)
- And anything specifically you'd like help with, just ask!
Outline of the day
9.30am - arrival and meet the coach. Bring your boat (or a club boat) down to the shore. Rig, change and brief.
10.00am approx - on the water for session 1.
We usually have one long morning session then debrief over lunch, or have two shorter sessions over the course of the day depending on the group's preference. Remember the galley isn't open so you'll need to bring some lunch - a microwave is available to heat your own lunch up.
We are very lucky to have a range of club boats this year. Rigging and derigging a boat can sometimes be the hardest bit...! Have a go but if you're unsure the coach will give you a hand or check before you launch. Please help us by looking after the kit as if it was yours, and if something doesn't look right then please let someone know so we can sort it out.
All club boats are reserved for this improver session but please email Ness with your preference (e.g. Xenon/GP14/Laser).
