Welcome to Manvers Waterfront Boat Club

Manvers Lifesaving and First Aid

Manvers Life Saving is based at Manvers lake in the summer and Wath Pool during the winter.

We teach water safety, first aid and rescue skills to children from 8 years and older. We also offer first aid and open water lifeguard courses throughout the year.

The club is an affiliate of the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and teaches the society’s schemes. We can also offer support towards Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Rookies

This group is for children 8 years+ and follows the Rookie Lifeguard scheme of work from Bronze to Gold stage. Candidates learn first aid and CPR skills as well as discussing different water sites and their hazards. In the pool candidates learn personal survival, self-rescue and eventually progresses to rescue skills. To be in this group children must be able to swim at least 2 lengths front crawl in a good style.

National Lifesaving Academy

This group is for children 12 years+ and follows the Lifesaving Academy scheme of work. Candidates are taught first aid and CPR skills as well as learning about different water features and their hazards. In the pool candidates learn personal survival, self-rescue and rescue skills. To be in this group children must be able to swim at least 2 lengths front crawl in a good style.

During the summer months, we also offer sessions to develop SUP and paddle sessions that are developed alongside lifesaving skills.

Clothing

Members must wear suitable clothing for dry side sessions. Lifesaving first aid and CPR involves a lot of bending, lifting and rolling casualties so clothing needs to be appropriate to these tasks. Girls, please make sure you wear suitable tops and trousers/leggings to avoid feeling uncomfortable.

For pool work, candidates must wear a pair of shorts and a t-shirt or pyjamas to go over swimwear. Once again, please can swimwear be suitable to lifesaving as t-shirts may be required to be removed for some scenarios; bikinis are not suitable for this purpose.

In the lake, we ask that candidates wear wetsuits over their swimwear along with a brightly coloured swim cap. Long wetsuits are preferred over shorties in the colder weather. Wetsuits can be loaned from the lake, please ask a volunteer when you attend.

We look forward to seeing you at our sessions. If you have any questions, please contact kim.kilner@mwbc.org.uk

Safeguarding

No one involved in sport and physical activity, whether they’re a volunteer, participant, spectator or an athlete, should ever have to worry about abuse or harassment. Safeguarding in sport is the process of protecting children and adults from harm by providing a safe space in which to play sport and be active. For further information please see the link below:
