We can arrange both Dinghy Instructor and Power Boat Instructor Courses.
Please check the calendar for available courses and contact us to register your interest if you cannot see the course you are wishing to do.
The RYA Dinghy Instructor course in 2022 will be held on the 22nd to 26th October (inc) and delivered by Mark Elson. To qualify for this course you must hold the following at the time of the course:
RYA Safe & Fun
RYA Powerboat Level 2
Valid First Aid Certificate appropriate to being on the water
You will be required to complete a pre-entry sailing assessment and demonstrate the following:
-
Sailing a triangular course. You will need to demonstrate that you are using all the boat’s equipment to best advantage.
-
Sail a tight circular course. You will need to circle less than three boat lengths’ radius around a stationary boat, making only one tack and one gybe.
-
Sail a follow my leader course, speeding up and slowing down and maintaining a constant distance from the boat in front.
-
Pick up a Person Overboard dummy. The boat must approach the dummy under control and be stopped in the water as you pick up the dummy, ideally on your first attempt.
-
Sail rudderless (or with rudder in place and the tiller on loose elastic). Sail a triangular course, demonstrating control and effective sail trim/balance.
-
Lee Shore Landing and Departure, using the correct sail plan.
-
Pick up a mooring or anchor. Boat should be stopped next to the buoy, and the buoy picked up first time.
-
Coming alongside a moored boat. You will need to approach under control and stop alongside on the first attempt.
We will be offering the DI Pre-entry prior to the course, alternatively contact your nearest RYA Training Centre if you wish to complete it somewhere close to home if you live out of area or are not able to attend on the specified date.
