Blossom day at Mosser   iCal entry for this event

There are few sights better than an orchard of apple trees in blossom on a beautiful spring day. To celebrate this, we are holding a "blossom day" at Mosser on Sunday May 20th. The weather can't be completely guaranteed, but there is plenty of shelter from showers, and the blossom should be well out. There are over 100 apple trees and the late spring should mean that they are mostly blooming at the same time.

The event will be mainly a social occasion (tea, cakes, cider, apple juice), but with an opportunity to

  • discuss orchard management (including orchard floor management)
  • consider the merits of different varieties (40 planted) in dealing with the Cumbrian climate
  • see how the NCOG cider is progressing (for the cider-makers we may do some packaging, but we will at least do some tasting).

We also plan to cover other topics of interest: the main ones mentioned so far are secateur and scythe sharpening (& peening). Please bring your tools if you wish to be involved in this. Let Mark know if you would like to include any other topics.

The detailed timings may be a little weather-dependent, but the provisional plan is to taste/package cider in the morning and do the other activities in the afternoon.

Tea/coffee, cider, cakes and apple juice will be available (cake contributions welcome!).

Please book below, so that we have an idea of numbers and can contact you quickly if plans change.
