Membership

Sutton Bingham Sailing Club offers benefits to existing and new members. Membership of the Club is currently open and the Club is committed to training and developing the sailing skills and knowledge of young people.

If you are joining us a new Adult Single, Senior  or Family member you will need to pay the Joining Fee.  This is not applicable for Winter or Junior memberships.

The Joining Fee must be paid by all new members, including previous Club members who are rejoining after a period longer than one year.

We are very lucky to be situated in a beautiful part of the Somerset Countryside on a site leased from Wessex Water. We are a friendly and relatively small organisation reliant on our membership to volunteer and help with the running the Club so that we all can benefit & enjoy our facilities and the sailing. To this end from time to times members will be invited to come along and help out on working party days.

To allow sailing to take place we have a requirement for certain duties to be undertaken in the form of safety boat, galley and race officer roles - training can be provided on request if needed and are as follows:

  • All members, 16 and over are required to complete up to 3 mandatory duties: safety boat (Officer of the Day), and/or Galley per year. Family adult members must complete up to 3 duties per family when both adults are sailing members. When a family comprise 1 adult or 2 adults where one sails and the other does not then up to 2 duties must be completed annually.
  • If you do not feel able to volunteer for duties you can pay an Opt out fee.  This applies to weekend safety boat and Galley duties only - it is not an available option for temporary, winter members and does not apply to Thursday evening duties. We strongly encourage members not to use the Opt Out option unless absolutely necessary as we believe that volunteering for duties and other work around the club helps you meet more members and helps make your membership of the Club more enjoyable.
  • Racers are required to complete a minimum of 2 Race Officer duties per year at weekends.
