Cold Turkey - Post Christmas Matlock Paddle   iCal entry for this event

Quick Info

Location: Matlock Bath - River Derwent

Distance: 4-5 miles (approx)

Suitable For: Most people (some grade 2 sections). Juniors & Families Welcome (Bring a change of clothes, and cold weather kit - its getting colder)

Meeting at: LOPC. 8am.

Rough end time: 6pm at LOPC.

A very pretty, classic section of the river Derwent. A good chance to get out and about during the break and show off your new kit.

Ideally meet at the LOPC for loading boats and kit (if you need to borrow kit please come and help load it), we then drive up to Darley Dale.

Following a shuttle with the minibus we will get on the river at Darley Dale bridge (BJ Waters) and paddle down river to Artists Corner (146 Dale Road A6, DE4 3PS).

Approx 4 miles of mostly flat water with a selection of moving water and interesting bits and pieces along the way. This paddle is suitable for most members of the club. Time and weather permitting some may want to stay and play at the slalom site at Matlock, but this is optional.

This year we will follow the paddle with a drink and a bite to eat at the Square & Compass (where we launched).

If you have your own kit feel free to meet us at the Square and Compass PUB at roughly 10am.

Club kit is available, just enter details on the booking form, although you'll be helping to load it anyway!

What to bring

  • Normal paddle kit, suitable for the colder weather.
  • A spare set of clothing in case you get wet on the water. Pop this in a drybag to keep it dry.
  • Lunch\Snacks, a hot drink.
  • Kit to get changed at the other end.

Transport arrangements

We will be using the club minibus. Seats are first come first served, so we may end up using seats in cars too.

Members £5.00 per person or £12 per family group. All of this goes to the club as usual.
