Beginners Beekeeping Course   iCal entry for this event

This beginners theory course is for anyone who is aspiring to become a beekeeper and is a prerequisite for the practical courses at our association apiary. The course is over 6 consecutive Wednesday evenings and each session will be approximately 2 hours duration.  For those who choose a course option with the British Beekeeping Association Guide to Beekeeping book, you'll find this a very comprehensive book packed with a massive amount of information!

The course will prepare you for the thrill of becoming a beekeeper and will form the backbone of your knowledge about this incredible insect - the Honeybee. This is just the start - you will continue to learn and master the craft for many years to come!
If you choose the option to also attend our hands-on Practical Apiary Sessions, then your course fees will also include Social Membership that will entitle you to attend our winter association meetings prior to the commencement of the Beginners Course.  Please download and complete our Membership Application Form so that we can set you up on our membership system.   If it is your intention to keep your own bees, then you will eventually be required to upgrade your Social Membership status to that of a Full Member to enjoy the significant benefits this brings along.
Our practical apiary sessions are quite informal social events at which you will be mentored by our experienced beekeepers and make new friends to share your experiences with.
Through our association, you will be able to purchase your first colony of honeybees when they become available.  You will also be allowed to leave them at our apiary until you are ready to relocate them to a permanent position of your choosing.

The auditorium will be organised for family groups with a 2 meter separation between each seating group. In order to satisfy our commitment to reducing the spread of the coronavirus infection, you will be required to answer some simple questions that you will be asked to sign as being correct.  Once inside the venue, you will be required to wear a face mask and sanitise your hands at one of the sanitising stations provided.  Prior to being admitted into the auditorium, we will take your temperature with a digital non-contact thermometer.  If you are running a temperature over 100°F, you will not be admitted into the auditorium.  The venue already operates a Track and Trace system and your details will be added for each session you attend.  A one-way system will also be in operation.
As we will be unable to provide refreshments, you may bring your own along with you.
As our course becomes full, if you are unable to purchase a place please let us know by completing this form here.
