Welcome to Seafarers Sailing Club
Home > Social Events
Aim
The raison d'être for a social side to Seafarers is to enrich the experience of members. It achieves this by providing a variety of interesting and enjoyable activities for all, including those family members who do not sail and those mature members for whom sailing is now a fond memory. A secondary aim is to raise funds for the Club and for charities that the Club supports.
Types and Frequency of Social Events
Events take place at least once a month. The Programme may include semi-formal dinners, quizzes with a fish and chip supper, roast lunches, jumble sales, barbecues, skittle evenings, happy hours, American suppers and ploughman's lunches. There is something for everyone. Evening events are '19.30 for 20.00' unless otherwise advertised.
The clubhouse and bar are open on Tuesday evenings throughout the year. The bar also opens at lunchtime each Sunday during the sailing season and on the first Sunday of each month over the winter.
A coffee morning takes place in the clubhouse on the last Friday of each month. In September this coincides with, and is run as, Macmillan Cancer Support's "World's Biggest Coffee Morning".
The Club has also competed with other local sailing clubs in darts and snooker competitions.
Programme and Event Details (New Website)
Details of social events will be found by looking at the Social Programme and opening the page for the specific event. For most events, the details will not be added to the event's page until shortly before booking opens. Booking is via WebCollect (see Booking below). The Programme page for an upcoming event will contain a link to the appropriate booking page of WebCollect.
Late changes and other information with imminent impact eg booking of a popular event to open soon, will appear as a News item on the new website.
Booking
Social events that require to be booked can only be booked by Club members. Booking is made via our Membership and Event Booking System ie here at WebCollect.
A full list of all currently bookable social events will be found on the right of this page. To see details of an upcoming event and/or make a booking, simply click on the appropriate Details & Booking button.
Payment instructions will automatically be issued after booking. Payment should always be made prior to the social event. Payment by bank transfer is preferred although payment by cash or cheque is also acceptable.
Guests
Guests are welcome when accompanied by a Club member. Guests should be 'signed in' in the Visitors Book on every occasion.
Due to limited capacity, it may not always be possible to accommodate guests at social events. Some events are clearly for members only. For other events, guests will be accommodated if space remains available after members have had adequate time to book. For these events, members will only be allowed to book places for their guests from 7 days before the advertised closing date. Some events will be freely open to guests.
