Push The Boat Out 2019   iCal entry for this event

(Sunday 19th May - 1pm to 5pm)

Push the Boat Out (PTBO) is an RYA initiative aimed at anyone interested in getting into a boat and out on the water. Each year there is a series of Open Days and Try Sailing opportunities run by RYA Affiliated Clubs and Training Centres. These are aimed at complete beginners as well as more experienced sailors looking for a way back into the sport or interested in finding out more about their local club. Families, children, partners, individuals, groups of friends – everyone is welcome.

Seafarers Sailing Club is running its PTBO event on the afternoon of Sunday 19th May. The Club is providing approximately 48 places in a variety of dinghies including Club boats (Laser Stratos and RS Venture) supplemented by members boats (eg Wayfarer, Wanderer, Vision) each with an experienced helm aboard. All ages and abilities will be catered for although, unfortunately, the Club cannot currently offer sailing to people with mobility difficulties.

To book your free place(s) at Seafarers' PTBO event, go to the box below and choose your time slot and number of places.

Although a Seafarers Patrol Boat will be on hand at all times, it is essential that you are confident in the water. Capsizing is something that occasionally might happen in sailing dinghies; it is considered part of the sport.

Capsize or not, dinghy sailing, particularly from a beach, is an activity in which you will get wet. You should, therefore, bring suitable clothing. A wetsuit is ideal. However, a windproof jacket (cagoule type) to reduce the wind chill and an old pair of trainers will suffice. All clothing to be worn on the water, including footwear, should be clothing that you do not mind getting wet.

Seafarers Sailing Club will provide a buoyancy aid. Junior size helmets are also available if required.

In addition to providing suitable clothing and footwear as outlined above, you should also bring a full set of spare clothing. A towel might also be useful as we have showering facilities.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available at a very modest price.
