Safety Boat Course
Scammonden Water Sailing Club
Safety Boat Course.
Course Background
This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).
What you will need
On the first day, we would ask if you can arrive at the club by around 9:30am with a view to starting the course from 9:45am.
Our Instructors will provide you with a safety briefing and explain the course content on the morning of the course. We will be ordering and providing you with course work book and certificates on the day.
It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).
We recommend that you bring the following with you on each day of the course:
- Clothing suitable for the Weather Conditions (a wet suit is not recommended for this course)
- Dry, sturdy boots or trainers;
- Spare clothes – especially dry socks to change into if needed;
- A buoyancy Aid – please note, we can provide these if you do not have one;
- Lunch and drinks for each day (water and tea/coffee is provided);
- Passport Photo (see above);
- Pens and paper.
Whilst I am sure we will endeavour to keep you dry throughout the course, the weather forecast may have other ideas, so please check before the course and bring the right clothing to suit the conditions!
If you have any further questions between now and the date of the course, please do not hesitate to contact the key contact for the course on the below details.
