Windsurfing Taster Sessions 2024
WHEN - Thursday evenings - 6 pm for 6.30 pm start on the water until sunset, 20th June to 22th August 2024.
WHO - Adults and Juniors aged from 16 years with a Windsurfing parent or guardian member.
Note, the Windsurfing Team do not Instruct Juniors under 16 years. Attendance of Juniors under 16 years with windsurfing experience will be considered at the discretion of a Senior Instructor and they must have a Windsurfing parent or guardian with them at all times and themselves be able to windsurf already. HOW - Book and pay, via Bank Transfer or PayPal, up to 48 hrs before the session.
Current Club members new to Windsurfing - please book your first 2 sessions.
You can book a total of 2 Taster sessions before deciding whether to join. The Taster fee is deductible from the Membership fee.
If there is insufficient wind to launch there will be on-shore training, this forms part of the RYA training and will cover necessary information that is needed for Check out. Should it be necessary to cancel due to poor weather, we will do our best to rearrange the session for the following week.
If your preferred dates are full please use the Waiting list and you will be notified if a space becomes available.
As the sessions are very popular, please let us know in advance if you are unable to make it, so we can offer the opportunity to attend to someone else. We will do what we can to rearrange your session for another time, but this is subject to availability.
WHICH SESSION TO BOOK -

1st TASTER - decide which session best describes your current level. |
- First-Session Beginner Windsurfing: Aimed at both beginners and those still gaining experience. Our qualified instructors will give you a beginner lesson on land and then assist you onto the water to put it all into practice. The session will last approx 1 1/2 hours. If you take a second taster this will be a recap of the first followed by some supervised practice on the water. To get the most out of these sessions’ students should attend 3 sessions in succession since each evening builds on the previous one. If you are unable able to attend 3 sessions in a row it might be possible to join the following group from another week.
Dates available - 20 June, 27 June, 18 July, 25 July 2024.
- Second-Session Beginner + Experienced Windsurfing Session: Perfect if you have gained your RYA Start Windsurfing course or you can sail on all points of sailing in moderate winds and return to the shore under the prevailing weather conditions on the day. One of our instructors will brief you and allocate you suitable equipment so you can get out on the water for a trial session. The duration of the session will be determined by how busy we are that evening.

After completing two windsurfing taster sessions and becoming a member, please refrain from booking further sessions online. The booking page is reserved exclusively for taster sessions. Instead, turn up as often as you like and speak to an instructor upon arrival for guidance.
WHAT TO BRING -
- Swimwear and footwear - either wetsuit boots or an old pair of trainers you can wear in the water (mandatory). If possible, arrive wearing underneath outer clothing to make changing as easy as possible.
- A towel and shower gel.
- We supply equipment, buoyancy aids and wetsuits for supervised training sessions at no extra cost.
- After the sessions, there are hot showers and home-cooked food is available in our warm and comfortable clubhouses.
AFTER 2 TASTER SESSIONS -
- You will need to become a Member. The Taster session payments are deductible from your Membership fee. www.welshharpsailingclub.org/membership
- Do not book further sessions. All members can continue to windsurf during the Thursday evening sessions, just introduce yourself to the Senior Instructor on duty, who will allocate you the appropriate kit. Getting on the water will depend upon how many turn up and how many Instructors we have on the night. The final session on 29th August is for Members only.
- Beginners: Training will continue, this is primarily aimed at getting members to a suitable standard so they can be Checked Out.
- Experienced Windsurfers: competent windsurfers will need to attend a minimum of 4 supervised sessions before Check Out will be considered.
- Check Out: We operate a club Check Out to allow members to sail independently outside of organised sessions. Members need to attend a minimum of 4 Training sessions in the same season and are eligible for Check Out once their windsurfing and knowledge of the club and equipment reach a standard where they are capable of windsurfing safely, without safety cover, whilst complying with club rules.
