Marylands 6 August 2024   iCal entry for this event

Visit to Marylands, Ewhurst, Surrey

Tuesday, 6th August 2024

2.30pm – 4.30pm

Country Life magazine featured an article by Clive Aslet on Marylands in January this year. Home to a Society member, we are thrilled to be invited to visit this property built by Arts and Crafts architect, Oliver Hill, in the 1920s. ‘This fairy house’ (Prof. Reilly, 1931) is built of local stone and green Swedish pantiles. It references Spanish architecture but ‘above all, it is shot through with the influence of Lutyens and Hill’s own Arts-and-Crafts sensibility.’ (Aslet). Gertrude Jekyll, very elderly at that time, supplied a planting plan for the sloping garden with its wonderful views of the South Downs.  Our visit will be guided by the present owner and we will view the principal rooms and garden. The ticket price includes tea and cake and a donation to the owners’ chosen charity.

Tickets: ACMS members £21. Guest of a member tickets at £24.

Closing date 1.8.24.

Directions and parking details will be sent prior to the event.
