Short Range Certificate (VHF Radio)
This course covers the use of VHF and DSC (Digital Selective Calling) procedures. Legally anyone using a VHF or DSC VHF must have a licence to do so.
Only people aged 16 or over may do the course and sit the exam to gain the licence. Students need to bring a passport photo.
There is some pre-course reading for this course available in either a book or e-book, so you are advised to allow sufficient time when booking to allow this to be arranged / posted to you prior to the course.
Please note that for our April course in 2026 we can't supply pre-course reading until mid March.

The RYA Exam fee must be paid in advance directly to the RYA. The online payment system for this is here: RYA Marine Radio SRC Exam Payments
We run these courses at Peterhead.
We can also run exams for students who have completed a RYA interactive SRC course. We’d do this at a mutually convenient time. Please ask for more details.
Your SRC exam paper will be retained by us for a period of 5 years or until our next SRC inspection, whichever is shorter.
