RYA Dinghy Sailing (Combined Levels 1 & 2)
RYA Dinghy Sailing (Combined Levels 1 & 2) (Beginners to Improvers) (4 Day Course)
The RYA Adult Sailing combined levels 1 and 2 course is run over 4 days to give you a basic knowledge of sailing and to be capable of sailing without an instructor in good conditions.
What you'll learn
- Rigging the boat
- Launching and recovery
- Sailing on all Points of Sail
- Steering the boat
- Capsize recovery
- Essential safety knowledge
You will also receive an RYA Logbook. plus a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Who can take the course
The course is suitable for complete beginners aged 16+.
(Sailors aged 8 – 15 should join a Junior Sailing Course.)
Club membership is not required.
Course & safety information
The course starts with up to 3 students and 1 instructor per boat (using boats such as Wayfarers or Laser Bahia’s).
As the course progresses, the instructor will move from being with you in the boat to being in a powerboat nearby. Towards the end of the course there should be (weather permitting) the chance to try single hander boats as well.
All of our instructors have the relevant qualifications including safety and rescue training, DBS checks and first aid training.
What kit is required
We will provide...
- RYA Logbook (& certificate where applicable)
- A range of suitable Sailing Dinghies
- Safety/Coach Boats
- Buoyancy Aid

You need to bring...
- An old pair of trainers that you don’t mind getting wet, or wetsuit boots/shoes
- Swim wear for underneath a wetsuit.
- Suitable clothing for over a wetsuit for standing outside in.
- A towel & swimwear
- Your own wetsuit – sorry we don’t provide these ( full legs, spring/autumn 3mm+ neoprene, summer 2mm+ neoprene)
- Lunch & Drink (No catering on Saturdays & not every Sunday)
