President's Symposium 2025
Celebrating Devon's World-Class Heritage
The Devonshire Association’s President, Simon Timms, invites you to his Presidential Symposium on Saturday 10 May 2025
About Devon’s World-Class Heritage
Devon stands out among English counties as being home to no less than six heritage assets that have been recognised by UNESCO as having global significance. These are:
- The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site (Tavistock and the Tamar Valley in West Devon form one of its recognised Areas)
- The Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site (the first WHS in England to be designated for the significance of its natural environment)
- The English Riviera Global Geopark (encompassing the whole of Torbay)
- The North Devon Biosphere Reserve (a pilot site in UNESCO UK’s Climate Change project)
- The Exeter City of Literature (part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network but covering all of Devon)
- Exeter Cathedral’s Exeter Book of Anglo-Saxon Poetry (an entry in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register)
About the Symposium
Our 2025 Symposium will offer a rare opportunity for you to hear speakers from each of these six UNESCO assets sharing their views on their global significance and how they also enhance the social, economic and environmental life of Devon.
The Symposium forms part of the Devonshire Association’s 2025 programme of Celebrating Devon’s World-Class Heritage events which is supported by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Further details of this programme can be found on our website at devonassoc.org.uk/s25
The Symposium is open to all, whether you are already a member of the Devonshire Association or someone who is interested in discovering more about Devon’s heritage and the Association’s activities. The event is likely to be popular so advance booking is essential
