Welcome to Dunstable Hang-Gliding & Paragliding Club

Lectures

The Club is again organising Pilot Lectures and an Exam for all members wishing to take the BHPA Pilot (P) Rating.

John Finagin has kindly agreed to open up the pilot lecture series he does for Dover & Folkestone members to Dunstable members. Low Airtime Members, especially those looking to sit their pilot exam are encouraged to attend.

We’ve come to the winter Pilot Exam sessions again. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re considering doing the exam in the near future, whether you’re new and want to familiarise yourself with the knowledge you need for the next stage in your progress as a pilot, or whether you’re more experienced and want to dust away those cobwebs, or add your own knowledge and experience to the mix.

The Lectures on ZOOM run on three consecutive Wednesdays from 6.00pm until 8pm as follows:

Wednesday 15 January 2025 - Meteorology

Wednesday 22 January 2025 -  Airspace & Navigation

Wednesday 29 January 2025 - Flight Theory / Human Factors

Click on the above links to book space for these lectures. These lectures are FREE.

PLEASE NOTE: Pilots sitting the exam MUST have completed ALL the tasks on their Task Form in your Log Books and had them signed off by a Club Coach or Instructor BEFORE sitting the Pilot exam. The BHPA requires all tasks to be signed off before sitting the exam. Task Forms are available from the BHPA website.

The exam paper is sub-divided into the three sections (Airlaw, Flight Theory & Meteorology). All three sections must be be attempted during the 1 hour 45 minute time period allowed. The exam is multiple-choice and has a pass mark of 70%. Pilots failing the exam have to wait 4 months before they can re-sit the whole exam again. The Exam cost is £10 payable to the BHPA on application.
