WHAT IS ‘WINDY CLUB’?
i. ‘Windy Club’ is the innovative evening activity session set up by Dan Stevens in 2021.
ii.It gives access to the water for those who have a basic understanding of the sport they want to do or want to try something new to see if it is for them. It usually operates on an early Thursday evening (17:30 hrs to 19:30 hrs) and encourages local people to join in socially with the club’s activities, with the bar usually open afterwards. Some, but not all, have had some tuition and are looking for a bit of security in the way of safety cover on the estuary, possible informal sailing coaching and support. We have qualified safety crew on the safety boats, and you can use the club sailing boats if you do not have your own.
HOW DOES IT WORK
i Everyone is welcome, both members and non-members. Depending on the weather, and availability it allows you and your family to try out sailing. It is a great way to meet new people and show you what beautiful place the Dyfi Estuary is and what the Club is like. For those not sailing on the water you can relax and sit and watch in the clubhouse or on the balcony.
Please be make sure you book via Web Collect BEFORE 23.59 on the Tuesday before the session
ii.You will need to bring along your own kit but we may be able to lend you some, especially buoyancy aids. Be prepared to get wet and have suitable clothing. The changing rooms will be open with showers.
iii. Other sailors will be around to support and advise you. Please introduce yourself and ask them
. iv. Before you go afloat you will need to attend a briefing at the start of each session to cover safety matters.
v. There is an opportunity at the end of the session to meet fellow sailors in the bar and food may be available.
