The Permian of Northeast England
Leaders: Stu Clark and Graham Leslie
Curious about the evaporite–carbonate successions of the Zechstein Group? Fancy seeing some in outcrop? From Seaham to Tynemouth on the North Sea coast of Northumberland, Society members will see elements of the Permian marine succession of the UK– including what was traditionally referred to as the Magnesian Limestone. The excursion will examine these spectacular strata in the Seaham coastal section, including the Concretionary (Cannonball) Limestone and the Seaham Residue - from which soluble evaporite deposits have been dissolved away, giving rise to widespread collapse-breccias and other dissolution structures.
Deposit £30; further details will be available soon.
