A REGENCY DANCE DAY with RICHARD POWERS
SATURDAY 3 AUGUST 2024 10.30-17.30
St Pancras Church House, Lancing Street near Euston Station, London NW1 1NA


Enjoy a whole day of dancing country dances, cotillons and quadrilles for £40 pp  (£35 for students and dancers on a low income).

No partner is necessary.

You should be aware that there will be some photography and filming of this workshop.

Tea, coffee and light biscuits will be provided . Lunch is not provided, so please bring a packed lunch or try a nearby cafe.

Please wear soft soled flexible shoes as these will be best suited to the style of dance.

In the evening, after the workshop, some of us will be joining Richard Powers for a meal nearby. If you would like to come along, please contact Sharon Butler by email butler6rf@btinternet.com when you register so that we can make a booking for everyone.

 

RICHARD POWERS
Richard is a dance historian and teacher of historical and contemporary social dance, who has been teaching dance for 45 years. He leads workshops around the world and is currently a full-time instructor at Stanford University's Dance Division, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies.


He specialises in 19th century American and European social dance, dances of the Ragtime Era and Jazz Ages, and currently evolving vernacular dance forms. Richard’s website, https://www.richardpowers.com/, reflects his wide research interests in its links with his personal collection of over 2,500 historic dance manuals, the largest personal collection in the world, supplemented with a twelve thousand-title collection
of period dance music.

 

Richard’s full biography can be found at https://www.richardpowers.com/bio. It includes mention of an 1856 waltz quadrille he choreographed for a performance at Buckingham Palace for the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria. It was viewed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.


DIRECTIONS TO ST PANCRAS CHURCH HOUSE:

Our venue is very close to Euston Station.
Go down the stairs on the eastern side of Euston Station and cross Eversholt Street. Lancing Street is almost directly opposite. The Church House is a short walk down, on the right-hand side. There is a call button for the Hall on the box to the right of the door. The Hall is on the 2nd floor (a stairlift is available).
