Dance like a Tudor: An introduction to dances of Queen Elizabeth’s court.   iCal entry for this event

Saturday 5th October 2024 10.30 – 16.30

This one day introductory class is designed to introduce you to dances of  the Elizabethan court and the wider country. Two experienced  historical dance teachers will lead you through a variety of dances from different historical sources.

You will experience some "English Measures" from sources associated with the the Inns of Court manuscripts - dances such as the pavan, almain, coranto, and galliard as well as branles or brawls, and sociable country dances as published in the 17th century by John Playford. We will briefly explain the context for dance of the time and touch on Italian dance with a short demonstration.

The day is suitable for complete newcomers to dance or historical dance, and could also appeal to people wanting to refresh their memories or revisit old favourites.

There is no need to come with a partner as when you need one, we will help everyone get settled.

Please wear soft soled flexible shoes as these will be best suited to the style of dance.

Teas/ coffees squash and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch unless you prefer to go out to eat during the lunch hour.

Further details will be provided much nearer the time to ensure you find your way to us easily.
