Welcome to Inverness Canoe Club
Home > Courses and qualifications
So you want to give paddlesports a try, but are not sure how to get started? The Club runs introductory courses for those who are new to canoeing and kayaking or those who have had very little paddling experience and would like to gain basic skills and knowledge.
Once you have done an introductory course, the Club offers a variety of courses to allow you to develop your skills (as well as coached opportunities on Tuesday evenings on the river and Wednesday evenings on the sea through the sea). ICC follows the British Canoeing Awarding Body Awards & Qualifications system. Within this there are a range of awards and qualifications suitable for those at every step of their paddling journey, whether you are currently focused on developing your own personal skills, want to learn safety and rescue techniques or wish to become a coach or a leader.
The Club organises courses throughout the year, using our own (volunteer) coaches, as well as external providers - allowing members to benefit from a range of different and very experienced coaches. Many of these courses are also subsidised. In particular, the Club will provide a financial contribution towards the cost of coaching and leadership qualifications, as well as supporting you on your journey - in return for some of your time to develop your fellow club members.
If you have any suggestions for future courses/training (whether following a BC syllabus, or focusing on specific skills, such as rescues or incident management, etc), please contact Andy Dorin, coaching@invernesscc.org.uk.
