Welcome to Inverness Canoe Club
Home > Pool Sessions
Each winter the club runs pool sessions in the competition pool at the Inverness Aquadome on Friday nights from October until March. This gives members the chance to learn new skills, consolidate existing techniques, experiment and have fun in a warm, safe environment.
What are the pool sessions?
Kids/U16 Sessions – in the middle lane;
- It’s pool sessions for the non-adult, they get to play have fun and learn how to use a kayak, maybe even roll. Same as the adults but they always look like they are having more fun!
We can only offer 8 slots so book’em while you can! They go quick.
Slots are weekly bookable but feel free to book several weeks at once (saves filling in the EME forms again and again and again)
Adult rolling group - in the shallow section;
- Need help finishing that roll off? Never learnt but always fancied trying?
- If you’ve already got some paddle basics and want to spend some time practising the roll, the 4 weeker is for you! Same coach for the 4 weeks so you guys can work together and have some consistency.We pair you up with another attendee and you both have a boat to use for the whole evening.
- We’ve changed up the sessions this year so there are only 4 slots available for the group! Grab them fast.
Adult General or Beginners Coached group – shallow section;
- Want to work on anything or everything?
- Maybe you are complete beginner and fancied giving it a go?
- You actually do want to roll but you’re just super busy/work shifts and so can't commit to the 4 week rolling block? This one is for you…
- Weekly booking, possibly different coaches each week, working in groups of 2 people to 1 coach with individual boats.
- We’ve changed up the sessions this year so there are only 4 slots available for the group! Grab them fast.
Greenland Rolling Guided Peer Group – Shallow Section
NOWAY – we are actually getting the sea boat out! You heard me right!
- This new session is for 4 paddlers to come join our Graham in a guided peer session. Where you can practice and help each other with the GREENLAND roll.
- As you’re sharing the session will be split with 5 people in total it will run from 9pm – 10:30pm (Yes you guys get to stay in till the very end)
- This is for the committed type as we are releasing it in a 5 week block! Yep 5 dates just for you to practice that graceful sweep of a roll.
- Dates are set. Only one block is being released.
- We are popping in a “interested in the next block” list – there is no fee to join it. However we will use it to determine, whether to offer a second set in the new year – so add yourself on if you’re keen to see it again!
Deep Water Rolling & Rescues COACHED – DEEP END
That’s right … it’s new…
So one of our NEW sessions is in the deep end.
- There are 6 paddlers to 2 coaches, working within a mix of group activities and in pairs. In supportive guided session.
- Work on your rescue techniques; hand of god/barrel rolls, deep water re-entry; T-rescues the list goes on...
- We can add in time to build on your roll technique.
- And it’s weekly booking! No block commitment required :-D
Adult & Teen uncoached group - Deep End.
- We didn’t drop it, if you just want to come along and have a wee play with your mates, or just you on your tod. This is the slot for you!
- WEE proviso, Teens should have previously been agreed for unsupervised booking place, if you're unsure please get in touch before booking a U16 slot in the uncoached area.

- Steve has volunteered to run some more freestyle for the club in the new year; there will be 3 of these sessions;
- Provisional dates to be issued soon! Watch this space.
- There will be 8-12 places available and are suitable for all ages; No freestyle experience is necessary however you should have a roll. The club only has a small amount of playboats, so you are encouraged to bring your own - however it must be clean!!
