Saturday Club - MORNING / BEGINNER'S session - 13 June 2026   iCal entry for this event

Llyn Brenig Sailing Club (LBSC) is holding its Saturday Club on eight Saturdays during May - September 2026 to provide low-cost, closely supervised training to youngsters (aged 7 - 17 years) who wish to start to learn to sail or to develop their skills as ‘newbie’ dinghy sailors.

Sessions will be held on 30th May, 13th June, 11th July, 18th July, 1st August, 8th August, 29th August and 12th September, with each date running a morning session from 0930 - 1230 and an afternoon session from 1300 - 1600.

The Morning Sessions are intended for beginners, while the Afternoon Sessions are intended for youngsters with (ideally) RYA Stage 1 Certificates who wish to improve. Parents unsure about which session is best for their youngster(s) are asked to contact the Training Principal to discuss.

Numbers are limited to 8 participants per session to optimise safety and progression - individuals may not attend both sessions on the same day without prior discussion with the Training Principal.

On their first visit, participants will be given an initial taste of dinghy sailing - either as ‘crew’ on a dinghy sailed by one of the Instructors or single-handed in a suitable training dinghy - according to their level of confidence.

Thereafter they will receive instruction according to the Royal Yachting Association’s “Get On Board” Youth Sailing Scheme syllabus, which - with satisfactory, regular progress over the three months - will result in the award of either a Stage 1 (Beginner) or Stage 2 (Intermediate) Certificate. No minimum number of sessions is set, but we expect that at least 5 or 6 sessions will be needed for such certification.

· All tuition will be provided by RYA-accredited Dinghy Instructors in our range of training dinghies, under the close supervision of our powered Safety Boat teams.

· All participants will be charged £15 for each session they attend, which will purchase them Day Membership of the Club for the day and the appropriate RYA training log / manual.

· Cold drinks and biscuits / snack bars will be available free of charge, but participants will need to bring their own food if wishing for more.

· A parent or guardian will need to drop their child / children off at the start of each session in order to sign the consent / Day Membership Form for that day.

Facilities

The Course will take place at LBSC’s modern and spacious clubhouse, with changing rooms, a fully-equipped galley (kitchen), and appropriate facilities for less-abled members (including lift access to the clubhouse). There is ample free parking, free wifi / internet access and a large outdoor seating area overlooking the water (great for lunch on good weather days).

Clothing

Specialised equipment (wet suits, flotation jackets, helmets) will be available for loan at no cost - although trainees who have their own kit are welcome to use it, if deemed adequate by the Instructor. Otherwise, warm, quick-drying, layered garments should be worn, with light-weight, non-slip footwear, reasonably ‘grippy’ gloves and a wind-proof outer layer (cagoule) being advised.
