LBSC Winter Training Sessions - 2025-26
We are offering youngsters who have mastered the basic skills of dinghy sailing the chance to develop a broader general skillset, including the essentials of winter sailing and of racing as part of their progress along the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme (YSS) pathway.
We are holding three sessions on the stated dates that are open to youngsters (aged 8 - 17 years) who already hold at least Stage 2 certification under the RYA YSS. For safety reasons, the number of places available for each session is limited to 8 participants. Over the course of the sessions, participants will be coached on the following areas:
· Sailing in cold / challenging weather
· Race training
« Getting the best out of the 5 Essentials when racing
« Start line procedures
« Windward mark rounding
« Leeward mark rounding
« Racing tactics and common errors
· Advancing their general sailing skills
Participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as they can - the above topics will be addressed across the sessions, and will (as much as possible) be flexed to meet the development needs of each individual. Where skill and knowledge development meets the required standards, certification in later Stages of the YSS will be issued, and may include advanced modules such as Seamanship Skills, Sailing with Spinnakers and Start Racing.
Participants who cannot attend enough of the sessions to attain such certification will still make significant strides towards being prepared for a good summer of sailing and racing in 2026.

Weather conditions will be critical in determining the practicality of these sessions - particularly if temperatures are forecast to be below freezing.
In the days leading up to each session, participants and their parents/guardians will be kept fully informed on the forecast conditions and the extent to which those might impact the session. In the event that cancellation is necessary on safety grounds, full refunds will be made if required. Alternative dates (including the identified Reserve Day) will be utilised if at all possible.
