Lakes Experienced Touring Trip 6-8 November
This is planned for the weekend of 6/7/8 November 2026 and will be a collaborative paddle due to the expected weather & conditions. It will consist of one day on a lake and one day on a local river with grade 1 and easy grade 2 sections.
Please sign up now to register your interest, we will finalise details 10-14 days beforehand.
It is only open to experienced adult paddlers who must be in touring kayaks as we are planning on doing 24-30km in a day which will mean being on the water for 5-6 hours and paddling at a speed of 6km per hour. All participants must be able to execute a deep water rescue & be rescued in a windy environment. Please contact Ann below if you wish to discuss your suitability.
**PLEASE NOTE THE PADDLING ON THIS TRIP IS WEATHER DEPENDENT AND MAY NEED TO BE ADJUSTED OR CANCELLED DEPENDING UPON CONDITIONS** CONTACT [email protected] for more details before booking.
Club touring kayaks can be hired, but transport will need to be done independently.
As this is a winter paddle, we advise all paddlers to wear plenty of warm & waterproof layers (dry suit preferred) & bring some extra warm clothes. (Please advise us if you do not have suitable kit, as the club & most of the coaches have extra spare kit & dry bags they can reserve for you). You will need a helmet for the river paddling.
PLEASE DONT BOOK ACCOMMODATION YET, AS I NEED TO EVALUATE POTENTIAL LOCAL RIVERS WHEN I RETURN FROM EUROPE late October
Provisionally the plan is to stay in Penrith with the option for people to travel & join as a day trip. This will give us options to paddle Ullswater and a local river depending on the weather and conditions. Please indicate on the form what your plans are likely to be so that we can co-ordinate dinner & possibly accommodation. Sadly the YHA in Glenriddging on Ullswater is not open for individual bookings in November, I have looked at costings and the Travelodge and Premier Inn in Penrith works out remarkably cheaply if you are sharing a room. The other alternative is Ambleside yha and calling in on the river lune or the Eden on the way back on the Sunday.
