RYA Assistant Instructor Course
The RYA assistant instructor course is run over 2 to 4* days and is the ideal first step on the Instructor ladder leading to becoming a full Dinghy Instructor, Race Coach and Senior Instructor. Please see the RYA website for the requirements for the course, if you need help with these please contact us.
The course itself is mostly practical, participants will act as both an "instructor" and as "students" being taught on the water ie role playing. This coupled with a few shore sessions should give everyone the confidence to take out beginners both adult and junior sailing for the first time under the supervision of other instructors. Overall the course is comprehensive but relaxed with all the skills and methods you will need to teach.
This is not a course to teach you to sail, to minimum standard of youth scheme level 4 (or equivalent experience) or better sailing, with additional experience on top.
An Instructor handbook (G14) is recommended and available from the shop.
Open to everyone who wants to take part but aimed at those who wish to assist on adult level 1 and 2 courses and junior course during the summer (PB2 may be required for some activities) and run taster sessions.
This course is run by our senior instrcutor team.
Minimum age 14.
* 2 day course, intro to taster session and stage 1
4 days course as 2 days PLUS youth courses and powerboat techniques.
