Welcome to North Berwick Kayak Club
Home > Kayak Hire
Like all adventure activities, kayaking is a sport which carries a degree of risk. Equipment is hired entirely at your own risk. NBKC cannot advise on weather conditions, tides, the suitability of your plans or your paddling ability.
NBKC has a fleet of sea kayaks available for hire by senior (18+) members, whose competence has been assessed by our sea kayak leaders. THESE ARE NOT AVAILABLE to non-members or for commercial hire.
For coached/led club events (on the WebCollect calendar), our kayaks are available to participating members & is part of the event booking; no need to book kayak separately.
Please be aware of the Insurance Position: Club Membership gives you the ability to hire a club boat, and take it away for daytrips. However, the third party accident insurance in respect of officially designated club activities does not apply to independent paddling (e.g. peer paddles) and hire of boats. Individuals who are interested in obtaining insurance cover for their paddling activities outside of official club sessions/trips can achieve this by joining the Scottish Canoe Association as individual members . You might also wish to consider taking out your own boat insurance.

Responsibility for NBKC equipment
All equipment is the responsibility of the person using it. NBKC expects all members to pay due care and attention to the equipment they are responsible for. Members must return the equipment in the same state they received it, and must ensure that equipment is returned clean. A fresh water hose is available in NB harbour.
Please thoroughly wash out the skeg boxes on all boats and also the pinch grips on those that have them. Kayaks should not be dragged, please use the club trolleys (in the store). If you are pulling in or out of the water make sure skeg side is up (out of the sand).
Any damaged or malfunctioning equipment must be reported immediately. Members will not be held responsible for reasonable wear and tear on equipment, but members who are responsible for loss or damage through carelessness will be charged for repair or replacement of the item. Where equipment is lost or damaged the Club Committee will have the final decision over any charges incurred and will always aim to be fair and reasonable.
