General Information
Easter Sailing School is a popular 5 day course run by RYA certified instructors. Our training focuses on learning and having fun on the water, and many of the groups work towards RYA accredited qualifications. There are eight different groups to choose from. Due to high demand, you must be an NBYC Member to book and attend this course.
Adults on site
Children are not required to have a guardian on site during the course, however you will be required to sign your child in/out each day. If you are not able to collect your child we will ask you to nominate who will be collecting them in loco parentis. There will be a short meeting for all parents with further information on the first day of the course, immediately after you sign your children in.
THERE IS A USEFUL GUIDE ATTACHED WITH TOP TIPS FOR PARENTS. PLEASE OPEN IT AND HAVE A READ BEFORE BOOKING IN YOUR CHILD.
PLEASE NOTE - If the stage you need is full, please select 'waiting list' and fill the online form out, there is no payment required to put your name on the waiting list. We hope to provide a space for all children but we do have to follow RYA ratios per group. Thank you for your understanding.
Boats
Please note that you need a boat to sail for ALL COURSES, with the exception of Stage 4 and Stage 4+ (for Stage 4, and Stage 4+, boats will be provided by NBYC).
You are welcome to use your own boat. Optimists, Toppers are the recommended classes for Stages 1 - 3, and we also allow Lasers 4.7s and Laser Radials in the Racing Group. If you wish to sail a laser, please inform us on training@nbyc.co.uk immediately.
Club Optibats (Oppies) and Toppers are available for hire if you do not have your own. Boat hire is charged at £75 per boat for the duration of the course - there are limited numbers so please book now to avoid disappointment.
For topper hire, a security deposit of £50 is required on the first day of the course. This will be collected by the office on the first day of the course (Monday 14th April). Your deposit will be returned to you following the course, upon safe return of the topper. Please note that the club is now cash free.
Course Options
For those with little or no sailing experience we suggest starting at Stage 1. Many children complete Stage 1 more than once so that they can cement their knowledge and build their water confidence before moving on. If your sailor has left a long gap in their sail training, we would recommend either returning to Stage 1, or a stage lower than that which they previously completed. Please note that to move on to the next stage, sailors need to have completed the previous stage, or have significant appropriate experience. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on training@nbyc.co.uk.
For full information on all the course options available, including our new for 2025 Stage 4+ course, please see the attached 'Easter Sailing School 2025 Information' document.
Don’t worry – we make assessments throughout the week and will do our best to provide challenge for your sailor if we feel they are not in the right group.
Photographic Permission
We ask you to opt in to photo permissions while on site here at NBYC. This is completed during the booking process. Please feel free to contact training@nbyc.co.uk if you have any questions.
