Course Details: Our Winter Race Training is designed for young sailors who are at Start Racing level or above (have completed their stage three) and are ready to build their confidence, develop their boat-handling skills, and take their racing to the next level.
Across the winter programme, sailors will develop their understanding of racing techniques, tactics, boat speed and decision-making, while gaining valuable experience sailing in a range of conditions. Sessions will combine practical on-the-water coaching with engaging shore-based learning, giving sailors the tools and confidence to become more independent and competitive sailors.
The training will focus on key areas including: Improving boat handling, sail trim and boat speed, developing starting techniques and race preparation, understanding the basics of tactics and strategy, improving upwind and downwind performance, mark rounding and racecourse techniques, reading wind and changing conditions, rules, positioning and decision-making, building confidence sailing in different conditions, developing race awareness and independence, learning how to review and improve performance
The emphasis throughout the training will be on learning through racing and practical coaching, with sailors encouraged to make their own decisions, experiment, and learn from each session.
Whether your sailor is preparing for their first season of regular racing or looking to progress towards more competitive events, the Junior Sailing Winter Race Training provides a fun, supportive and challenging environment in which to develop their skills and confidence.
Is this an RYA course: This training will be offered under our RYA Pathway Accreditation, by a qualified RYA Race Coach. Our training will be sailor focused coaching, so will respond to the needs and individual development of the sailors on the training.
