RYA Safety Boat Course
Safety Boat Course date for all candidates: Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th April: 9am - 5pm.
Please note the course is subsidised at £100 pp and is available for any member willing to volunteer in the season.
There will be pre-entry assessments on the following dates to assess your boat handling skills - you only need to book into one session below please (max 2 candidates per session);
Tues 14th April 9.30am - 12.30pm, Thurs 16th April 9.00am - 12.00pm or Frid 17th April 12.30pm - 3.30pm.

Required experience: Should have a basic understanding of sailing boats. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course
Course covers:
Pre-assessment: To fully participate in the RYA Safety Boat Course, your boat handling skills need to be at a consistent PB level 2 standard. This can normally be achieved by a full season of power boating following completion of your PB level 2, or alternative appropriate experience. Please note, that without this skill level you will be unable to develop the necessary safety skills to complete the safety boat course. As such we use this pre assessment to check your skills are at an appropriate level in order for you to do the course.
Safety Boat Course: The safety boat course covers skills to allow you to assist with the recovery of both boats and people from a sailing environment. This includes skills such as boat preparation, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, kayak or canoe rescue (can be covered as theory), towing, end-of-day procedures, suitability of craft, local factors, communication and rescuing other water users.
While is it not a pre-requisite of the course, it is recommended that you undertake a first aid course before participating in any real life rescue situations
