General Information: Our Summer Cadet Weeks are a popular 5 day course, run by our RYA certified instructor team. There are 8 different levels to choose from. Due to high demand, the course is only open to NBYC Members.

Adults on Site: Children aged 8 and over are not required to have a guardian on site during the course, however you will be required to sign your child in/out each day. If you are not able to collect your child we will ask you to nominate who will be collecting them in loco parentis.

Children aged 7 and under do require a guardian on site (or somebody nominated as a guardian in loco parentis) for the duration of the course. Should you have any queries, please contact us to discuss this.

Photographs:

We sometimes have a photographer taking pictures of activities during the week. The declaration that needs completing before you check out includes photographic permission. If you do not consent to photographs being taken of your child please email training@nbyc.co.uk with your child's name. Thank you.

THERE IS A USEFUL GUIDE ATTACHED WITH TOP TIPS FOR PARENTS. PLEASE OPEN IT AND HAVE A READ BEFORE BOOKING IN YOUR CHILD.

PLEASE NOTE - If the stage you need is full, please select 'waiting list' and fill the online form out. We hope to provide a space for all children but we do have to follow RYA ratios per group.  Thank you for your understanding.

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ONTO BOTH TRAINING WEEKS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO ATTEND BOTH WEEKS - Please also note, it is unlikely your child will pass their stage in just one week, so please do not book on to the next stage up the following week without speaking to one of our training team.

Course Options: For children aged 7 years please book on to Water Rats. For those with little or no sailing experience 8 years and over we suggest starting at Stage 1. Many children complete Stage 1 more than once so that they can cement their knowledge and build their water confidence before moving on. If your sailor has left a long gap in their sail training, we would recommend either returning to Stage 1, or a stage lower than that which they previously completed. Don’t worry – we make assessments throughout the week and will endeavour to move your sailor if we feel they are not in the right group. If your child has got a lot of previous experience but no formal RYA qualifications, please contact the office to discuss their requirements. We may look to organise a 1-2-1 session for them to assess which group would be most appropriate for their skill level.

What we offer:

Water Rats

For those aged 7 years. A fun week on the water building water confidence! Please note that Water Rats will still need to have their own oppie to sail.

Stage 1

By the end of this introductory course, you will have a basic understanding of how a boat sails, and some experience of steering and handling the boat.

Stage 2

During this course you will continue to develop basic sailing skills. you will learn to tack and control your boat speed.

Stage 3

Having completed stage 3 you will be able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangular course in moderate conditions.
