Seaford Sea Safety Skipper (4S) 2026
This is the mandatory annual update and refresher onshore session for club members who already hold the RYA PB2 certificate and intend to undertake safety boat helming duties on the sea in 2026. .
The purpose of these sessions is to ensure everyone undertaking these duties are briefed on recent changes to the equipment used, access arrangements and an opportunity for the club's power boat helm community to discuss lessons learnt in 2025 and have the opportunity to raise questions and go away feeling confident to undertake the helming duties this year.
This annual shore based activity for sea safety boat helms forms an important part of the Club's risk mitigation process. If you do not attend one of these 2026 land based 4S session, you will not be eligible to undertake helming duties.
We will also be arranging for those interested, some optional half day practical on the water sessions where helms can practise techniques for dealing with a variety of the more challenging incidents - such as inverted catamaran righting. These practical on the water sessions are not mandatory for experienced safty helms, but we believe a number of members will feel more confident at undertaking the role if they can have the opportunity to practise without the time pressure present in a live incident during a race.
For anyone who has gained the RYA PB2 course away from NSSC and not previously undertaken the sea safety helm on the water session, this is mandatory to give you the additional techniques and knowledge specific to our boats and their operation out of Newhaven harbour. This only has to be undertaken once.
There is no charge for either the shore based or the sea based sessions..
