Welcome to Corinthian Otters

The Corinthian Otters was formed to encourage the children of members of the RCYC to learn to sail on the River Crouch.  It is a sailing club in its own right and welcomes children aged 7-18 regardless of parental membership of the RCYC.

Although we are proud to share the facilities of the RCYC, the Corinthian Otters is managed independently by the Otter Management Committee.  Flag Officers aged 15-18, are elected each year and these young people contribute extensively to the running of sailing, social and fund-raising events.

Our sailing season runs from mid March to mid November with regular weekly sessions taking place on Saturday mornings.  Beginners learn the basics of sailing on a nearby pond which provides a safe and calm environment for younger children. Children joining the beginners group make use of our Club owned Optimist training boats until they are ready to move onto sailing on the river in their own boat.

Once on the river, most children start sailing in Optimists before moving onto larger dinghies with regular sailing sessions grouped in to fleets by boat class and by ability. Each fleet has a designated Lead Trainer.

All our Trainers, our shore and water based helpers are volunteers.

Membership of the Otters is £150 per child per year.  Alternatively it is included within Family membership of the RCYC.  For new members who are beginners we offer a trial period of 3 sessions before the subscription is collected.  To access this please complete the membership forms.
