A Wee Scottish Adventure   iCal entry for this event

We will conduct a trip to Scotland for a small number of paddlers, to provide an opportunity to paddle in waters away from Poole and the Jurassic coast. This trip is specifically for paddlers who may not feel sufficiently prepared or confident for some of the other club trips that are run, and the mindset will be one of relaxed adventuring and skills development. The target group therefore is those paddlers who have completed the Explore Award Course and are regularly paddling out of the harbour, up to those who have recently completed the Sea Kayak Award course who are still looking to build confidence. It is not aimed at experienced paddlers who are already capable and confident when throwing themselves into the more dynamic conditions experienced in the Anglesey, Pembrokeshire and Cornwall trips.

Dates. We will travel up to Scotland on 12 Sep, paddle 13-19 Sep, and drive home on 20 Sep.

Location. The paddling is planned to be in the area of Arisaig, but weather and other factors might cause that to move.

Accommodation. This will be a camping trip, with the intention to stay at at one site throughout the week.

Equipment. Paddlers will need their own camping and paddling kit. If paddlers do not have their own boats, club boats may be available for hire (subject to numbers required), but paddlers will still be responsible for transporting them to Scotland. Coordinated car sharing will help facilitate this.

Costs. In general terms, the costs to be borne will arise from transport, camping, food, and a small contribution to the fuel costs of the leaders planning and running the trip. An initial £50 deposit is required to secure a place on this trip. Total costs are being worked up still, but the trip is being planned as a minimal-cost adventure, and a forecast / breakdown of those costs will be drafted and published to the trip's paddlers for transparency in due course. The deposit will be refundable if any paddler chooses to step back from the trip once those further details have been confirmed.

Leaders. The trip's leadership and planning team will comprise Max Wray, Lyn Jackson, Kevin Spear and Martin Jones.

The trip is being advertised at this early point in the year to give people an opportunity to plan how they will use up any annual holiday they have. If there are any questions, please get in touch.
