We are planning another great weekend surfing trip with specialist coaches for PHCC members in March 2025.

 

The plan is to run introductory and intermediate sessions for groups of six paddlers who want to develop their sea kayaking skills on the surf. There will a focus on learning key skills including: launching and landing in the surf, rescuing yourself and others, rolling in the surf and of course, catching the perfect wave.  Surfing a sea kayak is great fun and helps build confidence to paddle in more challenging conditions.

 

This trip would suit paddlers of explore/2 star and above. You do not need to have experience of surfing to take part but you will need to bring a sea kayak for day 2.

 

The lead coach is Simon Hammond, former World Surf Kayaking Champion, author of the book Surf Kayaking: The Essential Guide, Coach and Manager of the current English Surf Kayaking Team. He has been coaching surf kayaking for the last 30 years and working with paddlers of all abilities and craft type. He is a lovely chap and a very approachable coach.

 

The weekend will take place in Bude, venue for the World Surf Kayak Championships, on the weekend of 8-9th March and will cost £160 per person, not including accommodation.  An initial non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a place, with the balance of £100 payable in the New Year.  Should any paddler with a booked place not be able to join the weekend, their deposit will be refundable if another paddler can be found to take their place.
