River Dart Canoe trip (2)
Sunday 22nd November Open Canoe River Dart trip - probably Lower and/or Lower Lower. Section will be dependant upon river levels and group.
This trip is a 'repeat' of yesterday's (Saturday 21stNovember), both 'day trips'. From the recent WhatsApp Poll, there are too many paddlers for one event so we are doing 2 separate days, so all paddlers have a bit more 'space' on the river. So if you are available to attend both days, please choose Saturday, as there are several who can only do Sunday. We aim to use this river trip for lots of opportunities to practice river skills, ferry gliding, break-ins, break-outs, etc. We also hope to include use of throw-lines and maybe some poling, dependant upon levels.
Suitability for this trip - solo canoe paddlers who are at or above Explore level, have experienced moving water within 12 months, have been involved in rescues and being rescued from a capsized canoe, and want to progress to Grade 1/2 rivers. (Ditto for regular tandem paddlers, inc rescue/d requirements). If in doubt, please get in touch. Also get in touch if no spaces available - I will sort a waiting list or increase numbers.
Meeting point will be at approximately 09.00 at our chosen launch point on the day, so either Holne Bridge or Austins Bridge - tbd closer to the date, when river levels and rainfall are known. We will be off the water by 4.00pm latest. You will need all your own kit and be able to transport it to the Dart, or car share, or hire a Club boat - but still will need transport. You also need a helmet, adequate boat buoyancy, and a throw line, and any other safety kit you may own. [You may already do this, but in case not, it is useful to have in your easy access kit, a smallish (ie 'bottom-sized'! ) piece of Karrimat or other non-absorbent pad (I use a section of padding from an old buoyancy aid) to use as a seat for snack breaks. Apart from the comfort (and warmth) it'll reduce the risk of punctures to your costly dry suit]
