Welcome to Red Rope

Red Rope is a national club for walkers and climbers with socialist and green ethics. You can learn much more about us on our main web site. This is our Home Page on WebCollect – the system we use to manage our annual membership subs. Membership and trip charges are all scaled according to your income and circumstances – check the table below to see what your membership band will be – then click on Renew or ‘Take out Membership’.

Membership

As you know, we use a banded system of charges for membership subscription and trip charges. At the April AGM 2026 a motion for a new system was passed, based on the following principles:

 There shall be the addition of a ‘hardship band’ for people who have almost no income.

 There will be six bands – this prevents people from simply picking the central band for convenience

 There will no longer be a ‘break-even’ band – because this tends to be the easy option for people – instead the Treasurer will set a notional ‘break even’ figure, around which the six bands are set.

Why are we doing this?

Because bands based on figures for ‘disposable or relevant income’ quickly become out of date, and need updating regularly, which has proved to be difficult. Instead, the new system is based on description of circumstances, that would not need to be changed to keep up with inflation.

How much will I pay?

Band Description  Annual Sub
A Band A is for members with little or no income, not receiving benefits nor being supported by anyone else, e.g. asylum seekers.£5.14
BBand B is for members who depend on benefits to meet their outgoings £20£20.58
C Band C is for members who are in receipt of wages or pensions but need to take care in order to pay their monthly bills. They may be single householders and paying high rents on a low income. They would be net recipients of subsidies from other members’ fees, to a limited extent.£30.87
DBand D is for members who manage their expenditure fairly easily. They may, for example, have savings, own their own home or be able to share living expenses. They would pay a small amount more than the full cost of their Red Rope membership each year.£45.27
EBand E is for members who have no financial difficulties and are in a comfortable position regarding housing costs and savings. Their membership fees would go some way towards subsidising less well-off members£53.51
FBand F is for members who have a high income or savings and can easily meet their outgoings. They are likely to be, or have been, in a well-paid job, and/or have substantial savings. Their fees include a significant contribution to subsidise less well-off members.£65.85

If you feel your band needs to change send an email to the Membership Secretary,([email protected]) so that she can do this for you in WebCollect.

Please do not do this change yourself, because the secretary needs to cancel your old band and setup a new one. Unfortunately, in the past members doing this themselves has resulted in 2 subscriptions, which creates work to correct when it is discovered. (This is the fault of WebCollect, not the members!)

Do you currently pay by cheque? - Please note that we are sorry, but can no longer accept cheques, due to the admin involved. You will get a separate email asking if you want to either switch to Direct Debit, or Bank Transfer as an alternative for those not wishing to be on the Direct Debit system.
