A REAL Pilot Gig Race - Dartmouth   iCal entry for this event

Teign have been invited to be part of a unique chance to be part of a true Cornish Pilot Gig Race.

Please read the info below about this great opportunity.

Please be aware that we can only take 1 mixed crew so there is every chance we will not be able to select all that put themselves forward.

Dear Fowey, Newquay and Teign Gig Clubs

You may have already heard – we have been asked to help organise a REAL Pilot Gig Race to Paddle Steamer Waverley –

PS Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Bought by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS), she has been restored to her 1947 appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast – including Dartmouth.

The pinnacle of Waverley’s visit will be meeting the last remaining steam powered river paddle steamer, Kingswear Castle, on the river Dart on the afternoon of Saturday 31st August

Teign, Fowey and Newquay you are invited to join us in racing each other from the town,  out to the Waverley which will be stopped by harbour limits. (Yellow buoys).

Each crew will have an authorised pilot onboard who lives in their respective towns.

First one to the ship wins the job and a percentage (at least 50% but need to confirm with others) of the pilot’s fee will be donated to the club.
