Clovelly Gig Regatta 2026
Dear all
I am writing to invite you to our annual regatta on Saturday August 22nd 2026 in our beautiful village of Clovelly.
As most of you are aware we only have enough spaces for fourteen gigs so it will be the case of whoever replies first will be able to come.
We will have a tractor available on the Friday night to enable us to tow the gigs down the steep back lane to the car parking area at the bottom of the village. Can all clubs deliver their gigs to the top carpark by 5pm, or as near to, on Friday 21st August. Alternatively, you can drop your gigs off in the week leading up to the regatta if it is more convenient. As the road is exceptionally steep, can you all ensure your trailers are in good working order. It takes a long time to get the gigs down and unloaded and we do need to be sensitive to local needs. Any clubs that want to tow their gigs round and moor in Clovelly can you let me know please.
Can all clubs also have chocks or buffs in the gig when they arrive on the Friday night and a set of wheels if possible.
Please car share if you can.
There will be a fantastic cake stall, raffle and our wonderful BBQ which will be alight ready to feed you all.
There is camping available in the field adjacent to the top carpark which is free. There are toilet facilities but no showers I’m afraid so pretty much ‘wild camping’!! The pubs do have accommodation and there are B & B’s in village but they do get snapped up quickly.
There is also a campsite at Higher Clovelly, about a mile from the main village, which has good amenities. Roeys Retreat Campsite, The old campsite, Higher Clovelly, EX39 5RP
Please bring refillable water bottles with you so we can reduce the amount of plastic recycling. There will be plenty of points to refill your containers.

To be able to stop congestion, the order of boats to leave the beach will be drawn from a hat on the day. Please be patient as it means we can get the gigs up the back road smoothly and efficiently.
We look forward to seeing you all for a great day of racing.
Kind regards
Dominique Perring
