Dear Clubs,

The Cornish Pilot Gig Association is pleased to invite CPGA member clubs to take part in the

inaugural GigRower European Championships, a major new championship event taking place

at Mount Edgcumbe, Cornwall, from Thursday 2nd July to Sunday 5th July 2026.

The GigRower European Championships will bring together CPGA clubs from across the UK

alongside invited international crews, creating a competitive, inclusive and celebratory

championships environment. Racing will be offered across all age groups, including Juniors,

Seniors, Vets, Super Vets and Masters, giving clubs the opportunity to bring a wide range of

crews to compete at a single multi-day event.

Each adult category will include three races, beginning with a long start-line seeding race,

followed by promotion and relegation heats where crews may move up or down the field,

before concluding with a championship final. Junior categories will race a long start-line

seeding race followed directly by a championship final.

The event will be hosted at Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, with racing taking

place in Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Racing will be visible from both Mount

Edgcumbe and Plymouth Hoe, offering a spectacular setting for competitors and spectators

alike. Live-stream coverage will also be available via the GigRower YouTube channel.

Alongside the racing, the event will offer on-site camping, social spaces, and entertainment,

giving crews and supporters the opportunity to connect off the water in a festival

atmosphere.

Clubs may enter multiple crews in each category and crews will provide their own boats.

With over 240 registered Cornish Pilot Gigs currently in the fleet, the event promises to be a

striking and memorable spectacle on Plymouth Sound.

Event Format: This schedule is subject to change based on crew entry numbers, weather

conditions and shipping factors.
