Club Paddle Whitby (River Esk)
A paddle suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike with plenty of opportunities to enjoy some peace and quiet on the river at a gentle pace, as well as skills development using the weir chute at Ruswarp and tidal river below. We will put in at Whitby Harbour and follow the flooding tide under the railway viaduct (with an opportunity to practice limbo dancing moves under the viaduct’s pillars!) and upriver to Ruswarp.
The weir at Ruswarp provides an opportunity to practice break ins and break outs (Eddy Turns) and just have some fun. We will have a packed LUNCH at the Island under the railway bridge or weir at Ruswarp. We have an opportunity to paddle further upstream depending on the group and then return following slack water after high tide downstream. Sailing opportunities arise with a southerly or westerly breeze and an extension to tour round the harbour if we have time.
Restrictions:
All paddlers are at 1 Star/paddle discover standard in an open canoe or Kayak. Group sizes limited to six.
