Adult RYA courses: level 1, level 2, level 3 September 2026  

RYA Dinghy Level 1 Start Sailing / Dinghy Level 2 Basic Skills / Dinghy Level 3 Better Sailing

For beginners and those who have started dinghy sailing, this is a fantastic opportunity to do 2 days of intensive training and really get your sailing skills going on either an RYA Level 1 course, an RYA Level 2 course or an RYA Level 3 course.

The course includes theory, land drills and lots of time being coached on the water. It is part of the RYA National Sailing Scheme and successful candidates receive the appropriate certificate on passing.

Course content 

CHOOSE EITHER:

RYA Level 1 Start Sailing - A course for beginners. Learn how to sail in all directions and awareness of launching and recovery. By the end of this course you would expect to be able to sail in light winds under supervision. This is a 2 day course.

OR

RYA Level 2 Basic Skills - A course for those who have sailing skills to level 1. You will learn about rigging, launching, sailing in all directions. Capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge. By the end of this course you would expect to be able to sail and make decisions in good conditions. This is a 2 day course.

OR

RYA Level 3 Better Sailing - A course for those who have sailing skills to level 2. You will consolidate the skills learned during Level 1 - Start Sailing, and Level 2 - Basic Skills. There will be short taster sessions from the advanced modules such as Day Sailing and Seamanship skills. This is a 2 day course.

Welsh Harp Sailing Club operates an adaptive teaching policy so if we feel that you are making rapid progress, we will be able to accelerate your learning with more challenging activities to master.

Course costs

£160 for members for a 2 day course

£220 for non-members for a 2 day course.

We offer a £60 discount on membership subscription if non-members decide to join following completion of the course.

Age

These courses are aimed at adults but we will consider ages 16 & 17 - please get in touch with the Chief Instructor to discuss.

Eligibility

The RYA Level 1 course only accepts bookings for WHSC members who have attended more than one WHSC Thursday Evening training session.
