RYA Dinghy Assistant Instructor Training Programme (26-16-AI-A)
Overview
Start your teaching journey with the RYA Dinghy Assistant Instructor Training at Welsh Harp Sailing Club. This training programme is aimed at enthusiastic dinghy sailors who want to develop the skills needed to help deliver sailing sessions. You will learn to teach both on and off the water, and understand the RYA teaching methods. Please chat through suitability for this training with a member of the instructing team prior to booking a place.
Training
Training will cover the centre's safe-operating procedures, and the teaching points related to teaching beginners in double- and single-handed boats in the RYA teaching methods.
Training is approximately 20 hours in duration.
It will take place on 2 whole days and 2 sessions of training activity at the Club. One session means an AM, PM, or evening.
Assessment
After training, AI candidates will be assessed on their ability to teach beginners effectively. Successful candidates will be awarded an RYA Assistant Instructor certificate by the Principal.
Certificate Validity
The Assistant Instructor certificate is valid for five years, at which point it is encouraged that AIs progress on to taking the RYA Dinghy Instructor training.
Note
AI must only work under the supervision of a Senior Instructor
The award is centre specific. Thus, if an Assistant Instructor moves from one training centre to another, the new Principal will be required to deliver centre-specific training and issue a new Assistant Instructor certificate.
