RYA Dinghy Sailing with Spinnakers Advanced Module Direct Assessment (26-15-SWS-DA)  

Overview

Sailing with Spinnakers is an Advanced Module in RYA National Sailing Scheme and it covers how to rig the boat, hoist, gybe and drop/recover one type of spinnaker, either conventional or asymmetric, etc.. That course usually takes 2 full days. Upon successful completion of that course, the candidate will become qualified for this Advanced Module. For experienced sailors who already possess all the required skills and knowledge, they can achieve this qualification through Direct Assessment without doing the 2-day course.

Training

No training will be provided in this activity.

Assessment

For the scope of assessment, please refer to RYA National Sailing Scheme Syllabus and Logbook (G4) for details. Capsize recovery with spinnaker hoisted will be part of the assessment.

Sailing Craft

Candidate can choose to use GP14 provided by WHSC or bring his/her own dinghy which is appropriate to this assessment. Please contact the Chief Instructor if you would like to discuss the suitability of your own craft.

Eligibility

Age: Minimum 18 years old

Sailing Ability: It is assumed that candidates have already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for RYA National Sailing Scheme Levels 1 to 3. Candidates should be able to demonstrate satisfactorily competence and confidence in areas afloat and ashore, practical and of sailing background.

Cost

The Club will cover all the essential running costs.

If you would like to be issued an RYA certificate, this will cost you £2.10.

If you would like the relevant section in your RYA logbook (G4) to be signed off but don't already have a copy of G4, you can buy the logbook at £9.00.
